Where to Use Compost Tea & What Plants Will It Impact

Compost tea soil additions have enriched the landscape beds of a number of homeowners in the Pewaukee, WI area.l

Compost tea is formulated to be used in landscaping and gardening beds, where it has a beneficial impact to ornamental perennials, shrubs, and trees that may appear stressed.

At Beautiful Blooms, LLC, we believe that healthy soil creates healthy plants, and using compost tea in conjunction with your regularly scheduled maintenance package will make a positive impact on both new and distressed plants, as well as trees on your property.

The Composition of Compost Tea & How it is Made

Compost tea is the transformation of nutrient-rich compost from its solid form into a liquid form. According to the University of Connecticut’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, there is an equivalent amount of aerobic bacteria and fungi in a 5-gallon batch of aerated tea as there is in about 40 cubic yards of regular compost. Compost tea is an insanely powerful, nutrient-rich liquid!

We use an Actively Aerated Compost Tea System (AACT) for brewing the compost tea that we use for our clients across the Brookfield, Elm Grove, Wauwatosa, and Pewaukee region. Our 25-gallon tea brewer is used frequently to create fresh compost tea for landscaping and gardening beds. We create our compost tea following these basic steps:

  1. The compost material is placed in a large, fine-meshed bag
  2. The tea is aerated while being mixed and stirred simultaneously
  3. The compost tea is brewed for about 12-24 hours

Compost tea should be used within 6-8 hours of brewing for the best results. It can be used for up to 24 hours after being brewed, however, after this point, the compost tea will start to degrade.

We suggest that homeowners use this product in conjunction with other organic gardening products. When used on a regular basis, compost tea fights disease, improves the quality of poor soil, and increases both fertilization and production in plants.
